We've now confirmed the dates and courses for our Summer Institute at Seattle University School of Law. We'll be offering Affirmative Litigation training from July 22-25 (with two prior weeks of online activities from July 7-19) and Community Lawyering training from July 29-31. Click here to learn more about and register for Community Lawyering.  As always we are deeply indebted to Seattle University School of Law, Dean Kelly Testy and the faculty and staff who so generously make their facilities available to serve the needs of the equal justice community. You'll love the extraordinary learning facilities and, of course, Seattle itself. Come join us!

  • In our Affirmative Litigation training, you'll spend three weeks in online activities and conversations, and then 4 days on site in Seattle, learning everything you need to know to transform your practice into a high impact one designed to achieve broad based results for large numbers of clients through affirmative litigation in state and federal court - litigation designed to proactively attack policies and institutions that have a harmful effect on your clients and client communities.
  • In our Community Lawyering course, offered over 4 days in Seattle without an online component, you'll learn the skills and approaches necessary to help design and play a fundamental role in multi-tactic advocacy campaigns to achieve structural change in your communities. You'll learn the basics of community organizing, media and communications, transactional representation of organizations, and policy advocacy, and you'll learn how to use your legal advocacy as an effective tool in a multi-tactic strategically planned campaign. By these means our traditional legal skills can be brought to bear to both achieve profound change for our clients and simultaneously build permanent community power and effective community leaders from among our clients.
