Legal aid advocates ensure that the promise of justice and equality are available to everyone, not just those who can afford an attorney. Legal aid advocates help low-income individuals and communities protect and secure their basic human and legal rights — to safe and affordable housing, quality healthcare, a living wage, decent education.
The Center for Legal Aid Education does its part to help realize the promise of justice and equality by providing regular, timely and quality continuing legal education that responds to the legal aid community's distinctive mission and practice.
Training you can trust
CLAE courses target the specific needs and concerns of your advocates, unlike generic “continuing legal ed” seminars. Because experienced legal aid staff help us create our courses, we address the real issues you face every day, from clients with cognitive disabilities to fact investigation on a shoestring.
Learning that works
CLAE courses employ proven methods and technologies to convey vital knowledge, skills, and attitudes. We carefully design activities to promote real learning – for example, to teach interviewing skills we have participants read about best practices, observe and critique a taped interviewing session, practice component skills one-to-one with colleagues, then conduct an interview in a simulated setting and receive a detailed critique from a facilitator.
