Community Legal Education

Through effective community legal education, low-income people can learn about issues that concern them and develop skills to take action and make positive changes in their communities.

The Community Legal Education training introduces concepts and skills that advocates need to:

  • Design and present community legal education that is accessible to clients and responsive to their actual interests and needs;
  • Ensure that community people who attend our trainings are engaged and learning;
  • Convey complex information and ideas with confidence and clarity; and
  • Generate participation and inspire action.

The training culminates with participants designing and presenting actual community legal education sessions on topics of concern to people in their communities.

This course addresses the following ABA Standards of Practice for the Provision of Civil Legal Aid: 2.1-Identifying legal needs and planning to respond; 2.4-Cultural Competence; 3.5- Assistance to pro se litigants; 3.6-Provision of Community Legal Education
