MLASSP / AmeriCorps
Legal Aid providers recognize the importance of recruiting and retaining talented lawyers and paralegals into legal services. To promote legal aid as a career option, South Coastal Counties Legal Services (SCCLS) in Massachusetts established the Massachusetts Legal Assistance for Self-Sufficiency Project. Now in its third year, CLAE partners with SCCLS to train and support AmeriCorps members placed in legal aid programs throughout the state. Drawing from our extensive curriculum, we provide AmeriCorps members with the advocacy tools they need to represent legal aid clients and support legal aid's equal justice mission:
- Basic lawyering skills (interviewing, counseling, case planning)
- Administrative hearing skills
- Community advocacy and education
- Whole Client represention
- Legal aid values and culture
