Trial Skills Training

The Trial Skills training is a four day training co-sponsored by the Legal Services Training Consortium of New England and the American College of Trial Lawyers. The training addresses five key trial skills – opening statements, evidence, direct and cross examination of lay and expert witnesses and closing statements – and follows the following basic format:

  1. a large group lecture through which key points related to the trial skill are introduced,
  2. small group practice in which participants are videotaped and receive feedback from faculty in the small group, and then individually, from a third faculty member in a video playback room;
  3. faculty demonstration.

Faculty include experienced trial lawyers from the American College of Trial Lawyers and from within the legal aid community.

This course addresses the following ABA Standards for Provision of Civil Legal Aid: 7.11-5 -Litigation; 7.11-4-Discovery; 7.11-5 -Trial Practice
