Center for Legal Aid Education

2009-10 Florida Leadership Institute

The inaugural class of LDI fellows included fifteen attorneys with experience ranging from one to twelve years who were paired with another fifteen mentors from programs across Florida.

Similar to their New England counterparts, Florida’s LDI Fellows each worked on Leadership Initiatives. Two fellows worked on projects to engage pro bono attorneys in serving previously unmet needs in areas of consumer advocacy and private housing eviction defense. Others sought to expand legal services’ reach to previously underserved communities such as Haitians, victims of sexual violence, the working poor and homeowners facing foreclosure. Fellows brought a full range of skills and resources to their leadership initiatives — from policy advocacy and community legal education to the development of new web-based resources.
