6/23/2008 8:32 am
The Center for Legal Aid Education announces a new partnership with the Mississippi civil justice community to develop a vision and long-range plan for a statewide training capacity. Building on its previous work in Mississippi, which included community lawyering training events and a call-center training process, CLAE will contract with the Mississippi Center for Justice (MCJ) to offer two training programs in the coming year: Basic Lawyering Skills and Fostering High Quality Legal Aid Advocacy to include sessions on professional development and supervision. Funded by the first-ever IOLTA grant specifically designated for training in Mississippi, MCJ will collaborate with the two LSC-funded legal aid providers, the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Program, law school clinics, and other legal advocacy organizations in the state to deliver training programs that will improve skills, build relationships and advocacy networks across organizational lines, and instill a shared understanding of the core values underlying legal aid and equal justice for all.
