Fellows and Mentors

Here is what you can expect from participating in our Leadership Institute:

  • Fellows learn the fundamentals of effective leadership; receive support in the practical application of these leadership tools; and develop and implement a leadership initiative with the support of a one-to-one mentor who works with you throughout the entire Institute, together with a community of peers, experienced Institute faculty and your program.
  • Mentors receive training in leadership – a toolbox of skills that are immediately applicable to your practice, whether your leadership emphasis is in management, advocacy, community participation or another area; and, training in skills associated with developing new leaders.
  • Programs support the next generation of legal aid leadership – and benefit from the increased readiness of participating staff to create innovative, strategic and decisive responses to the many complex challenges and opportunities our communities face.

  • Fellow's Manifesto

The twelve fellows from CLAE's inaugural New England Leadership Institute jointly authored a highly illuminating article for the April/March 2008 issue of Clearinghouse Review

Outlining an accessible leadership path for younger advocates, our fellows offer their thought-provoking suggestions for effective management and organizational restructuring of legal aid programs - to read their views in full simply click on the picture link below (we would like to also draw your attention to Clearinghouse Review's subscription page at the end of this article):
