Welcome Mississippi!

The Center for Legal Aid Education is delighted to announce a new partnership with the Mississippi civil justice community to develop a vision and long-range plan for a statewide training capacity.

Building on our previous work in Mississippi, which includes community lawyering training programs and a call-center training process, we are working with the Mississippi Center for Justice (MCJ) to offer further incisive training events in your region.

Funded by the first-ever IOLTA grant specifically designated for training in Mississippi, MCJ will collaborate with the two LSC-funded legal aid providers, the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Program, law school clinics, and other legal advocacy organizations in the state to deliver training programs that will improve skills, build relationships and advocacy networks across organizational lines, and instill a shared understanding of the core values underlying legal aid and equal justice for all.

This area of our website is dedicated to these ends - please check in from time to time for further updates and news.

"With scarce resources and escalating unmet legal needs among low-income Mississippians, it is essential that the small cadre of dedicated legal aid lawyers receive professional training that will enable them to deliver efficient, effective and high-quality legal services. The investment of IOLTA dollars in professional development for legal aid advocates demonstrates the Mississippi legal community's recognition that a stronger sense of professionalism, confidence and passion within the civil justice community will directly benefit the clients and communities these advocates serve."
